چکیده
The aim of this study was to investigate the incidence of radix entomolaris in mandibular first permanent molars in Saudi Arabian subpopulation. A total of 280 extracted mandibular first permanent molar were included in the study. The teeth were examined visually and the number of roots was recorded. The results showed that the majority of cases had two roots 93.9% (263 teeth), whereas the remaining 6.07% (17 teeth) had three roots. It is apparent from the previously reported studies and the findings of this study, that a higher frequency of occurrence of radix entomolaris in mandibular first molars in Saudi Arabian population than in other populations in west Asia. In addition to a higher frequency of occurrence in the East Asian population than in the West.

Root canals may be left untreated, if the dentist fails to identify their presence, leading to endodontic failure, particularly in teeth with anatomical variation in the form of extra roots or canals. Permanent mandibular fi rst molars usually have 2 roots placed mesially and distally and 3 root canals. However, radix entomolaris (RE), an anatomical variant of permanent mandibular fi rst molar,...

متن کاملDiagnosis and management of three rooted permanent mandibular molar: An Endodontic challenge
Variations in root and root canal is always a challenge and failure to recognize these variations can result in unsuccessful endodontic treatment. Mandibular molars can sometimes present a variation called radix entomolaris, wherein the tooth has an extra root attached to its lingual aspect. This additional root may complicate the endodontic management of the tooth if it is misdiagnosed or malt...
